In the spring of 2014, author L.L. Muir visited Culloden Moor and though her experience was far too sacred to speak about, she was able to appreciate Culloden for the heartbreaking graveyard it is.
When the overall story came to her, she never questioned the number 79. Sure, a shorter series would be easier to pull off, but since she wasn't the one to choose that number, she isn't about to change it. She never second-guesses inspiration. So, since 79 Highland ghosts need their stories told, she has enlisted the aid of a few trustworthy writers to help her get the job done and do the lads proud. Diane Darcy is the USA Today bestselling author of Scottish time travel and contemporary romance novels. She loves to read and write lighthearted and funny books, and the backdrop of Scotland was irresistible. Gorgeous man in a kilt? Girl from another time? Funny! She’s never been to Scotland, but with a family full of Moultries , Fordyces, Mcdonalds, and Camerons it seemed a good fit.
When I read The Gathering I was enchanted by the story and saddened by the events of Culloden Moor. The invitation to bring some of the warrior’s stories to life was irresistible. I believe my exact words were, “I’m in!” L.L. Muir was right. These guys needed a happily ever after. |
Cathy MacRae writes adventurous Scottish historical romance stories of braw Highlanders and the feisty lasses who love them.
When LL Muir approached her about writing a story ‘or two’ in the Culloden 79 series, she was instantly transported back in time to the misty day in April when she stood on Drummossie Moor and faced the stillness of the centuries-old battle site. There was never a question of ‘would she’ help write the series. Culloden has always pulled inexplicably at her, and this was a chance to reconnect with the ghosts she couldn’t resist--even if she’d tried. I began my writing career in 2005 after a vacation to Scotland and a hike on the Black Isle inspired me with the perfect setting for the characters running around in my head. Thirteen books later, Scotland is still my biggest inspiration for stories and my favorite place to visit. When the invitation came to participate in writing Culloden's 79, there was no question, only excitement over being able to channel the emotions left behind by two visits to Culloden Moor. I'm thrilled to be included in this wonderful project and to have a chance to provide a Happily Ever After in my story inspired by the brave men who breathed their last at Culloden. melissamayhue.com |
